Maruti Suzuki will integrate Snapdragon Elite Chips. The leading automotive manufacturer in India, is reportedly collaborating with Qualcomm to incorporate the new Snapdragon Elite automotive chips into its lineup of future vehicles. While the specific reasons for this collaboration between the Indian arm of the Japanese carmaker and the American chip manufacturer are not fully disclosed, there are speculations that Snapdragon’s innovative automotive chips could enable a variety of advanced safety features, connected car technologies, and other smart functionalities in Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming vehicles.
This development follows Qualcomm’s earlier announcements regarding partnerships with other Indian automotive companies, such as Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra.
Integration of Snapdragon Chips in Maruti Suzuki Vehicles
During the recent Snapdragon Summit held in Hawaii, Qualcomm unveiled two new chipsets designed specifically for the automotive sector: the Snapdragon Cockpit Elite and Snapdragon Ride Elite, both part of the Snapdragon Digital Chassis Solution portfolio. As reported by SmartPrix, Maruti Suzuki may implement one or both of these chips in its cars.
The Snapdragon Cockpit Elite chip is engineered to provide advanced digital experiences, while the Ride Elite chip is built to facilitate automated driving features. Qualcomm notes that automakers can leverage a unique flexible architecture to combine these capabilities within a single System on Chip (SoC). These chips have the potential to support various functionalities like infotainment systems, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), real-time driver monitoring, as well as lane and parking assistance, although confirmation on this is pending.
Both chips feature an Oryon CPU, an Adreno GPU, and a Hexagon NPU. With these processors, platforms can achieve up to three times the CPU speed and up to 12 times the artificial intelligence (AI) performance compared to the prior flagship generation, enhancing in-vehicle experiences. The chips can handle over 40 multimodal sensors, including as many as 20 high-resolution cameras for comprehensive 360-degree monitoring. Utilizing AI-enhanced imaging technologies, they deliver optimized visuals and are compatible with the latest automotive sensors and formats.
Qualcomm has announced that both the Snapdragon Cockpit Elite and Snapdragon Ride Elite will be ready for sampling in 2025.
